Winning a 2017 Liebster Award! | What is a Liebster Anyway?

(This post contains affiliate links. For more information, see my disclosures here.)

Hello everyone!

Wow, I am humbled and excited to say that I have been nominated for a 2017 Liebster Award for my blog post,  Walking with Maggie!

So… What is the Liebster Award anyway?

It’s an internet-based award for new bloggers, given by other bloggers. Its purpose is to help readers discover new blogs to follow.  Also, it’s a positive step for the recipient as it expands the nominee’s blogging sphere of influence!   The rules are pretty simple, and can be found here on the Global Aussie blog.

Thanks are in order!

Thanks so much to Sravanya from Hyderabadbeautyblog for nominating me! Sravanya (a Liebster herself) is a beauty blogger who lives in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, a state in India. She writes mostly about fashion, beauty and health; and I am grateful and amazed that she took the time to read my post about sweet little Maggie.

My Current Favorite Blogger

I will say that Abby and Donnie at Just a Girl and Her Blog were inspirational to me personally.  Through a computer search one day, I discovered Donnie’s discussion on the Ultimate Guide to Going Paperless. As I read his practical steps for storing documents (at 3 different places!), I was convinced! For me, as an accountant, this was a BIG DEAL.

I purchased his ebook The Paperless Home and worked through every step, learning so much and changing the way we keep documents here at our house. As I worked on my “paperless” project each day, I began checking out Abby’s writing as well; and those beautifully organized rooms! And her pretty organizers and printables!

But I will say that the Income Report page was a surprise! I had no idea that people actually earned a living from blogging. I went back to their very first report and read each “financial statement”. From these, I decided that there could be more to blogging for me! Maybe I could write about life, baby-sit little Maggie, AND earn income at the same time.

And here we are today…. learning and growing and Liebstering it up!

10 Random Facts About Me (Silly + Serious)
** {challenge from Mr. Global Aussie himself}**

    • I was the only one of 5 children born with hair.
    • I sold everything I had, except what would fit into my car, at age 21, and moved to NY from FL, the week after Christmas, having NEVER seen a snowflake.
    • I rode a camel in Israel.

  • I explored Quebec in the 9th grade, for a week.
  • I went kayaking in Roatan, too far from the shore in a leaking kayak, and had to be rescued by a Honduran fisherman.
  • I wrecked my tricycle at age 5 because I was going too fast and couldn’t make the turn. I had 6 stitches in my chin, and you can still see the scar.
  • I’ve been fly boarding.
  • I went parasailing at the highest height allowed by the FAA.
  • It seems a lifetime ago, I once had to break a bedroom window, put my infant son out into the hedge, crawl out through the broken glass, in a ripped up shirt, beaten and bleeding, and run for my life from my late first husband.
  • The most important thing you can know about me is that Jesus loves me, and I love Him.

Liebster Questions

Give a tip for other bloggers or potential blog starters.
Find your why. Stick with that. While you’re discussing Fashion Week, Thanksgiving recipes, Chanel Red lipstick, homeschool, and the best mineral paint for that DIY, make sure to not lose sight of your real purpose. If you’re sitting on the fence about starting, just start. Those dreams that God wove into your DNA:  let them out!

Name the top 3 most beautiful beaches you have visited.

1) Caesarea, Israel where Herod’s castle is in ruins.    2) Roatan, Honduras
3) the beaches of Florida * Had to add Florida since I am a native!

fave beaches

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest and why?
Well, if you know me, you know I like a party! So I will have a dinner party, and invite:
1) Heidi Baker – she rescues orphans, and has forever changed the nation of Mozambique.
2) Billy Graham – he has given his entire life to share the Good News
3) Lisa Bevere – she reminds me of Old Testament Deborah or now, Sarah Conner (lol). Watch this to see why.
4) Jerry+Lynn McKinnon – when people believe in you, and speak life to you for years, you and your generations are forever changed. #truefriends
5) Bryan+Katie Torwalt – because “Holy Spirit you are welcome here, come flood this place and fill the atmosphere….”
6) Brave Stag Productions – um.. we have to get a recording of this!
7) J-Day Fishing – Josh makes the best coffee!
8) James & Audrye McLeodAudrye spoke hope to me when I needed it most. #freedom
9/) Jonathan David+Melissa Helser – what kind of people can pen “No Longer Slaves“, and “Abba“? the kind I want to meet.
10) Randy and my fam – because they’re mine. #love
11) anyone else who would like to join in the fun, the laughs, the deep conversations, and the silly games.

For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
Other than Jesus loving me when I did not deserve it, I will say I am most thankful for my husband. When we met I was broken, and had more baggage than a cargo plane, but he loved me. God used Randy to heal my heart, and to show me what safe looks like, what unconditional love looks like, and what an abundance of corny love songs sound like. He’s my true love.

How and when did you start your blogging career?
My blogging “career” began 10 weeks ago, September 2017, when I decided to write down Maggie’s story and chronicle our family adventures.

Which one is the best and most trafficked post you’ve made?
I think my best post is a tie between Walking with Maggie and Being Wonder Woman. However, according to the powerful analytics of Mr. Google, the post with the most traffic is 40 Trending books to Read Right Now. (surprise surprise!)

Who is your favorite beauty and fashion blogger?
My favorite is the Beauty Look Book.  Sabrina shares her love of  beauty, lifestyle, fashion, home decor and travel.

Did you start your blogging for money or as a passion?
I started blogging to release grown-up words that have been stored up over the last year of baby-sitting my sweet 2-year old granddaughter. You Mamas, Grammies, and baby-sitters know exactly what I am talking about!

Working with other bloggers: who will it be?
Good question! I am currently working on a holiday home tour project with some amazing home decor bloggers like Lisa Designs Life, JennRon DesignsAt Lane and High, and  Home with Keki.   I am looking to connect with others, too. My sister, Kathy, and I also have some projects coming up.

As a blogger, where do you want to be in the next 5 years?
I would love to be writing for an engaged and growing audience, and have a book or two under my belt. Making money in the process would be nice too.

Now, it’s my turn to nominate 10 people and ask them some Liebster questions. So (drumroll please……) here they are.
